Ahead of this upcoming session at STUDIO Club in LKF, the South China Morning Post interviews Miami-based, electro music legend, Arthur Baker.
Born in Boston, Arthur Baker is an American record producer, songwriter, remixer and DJ best known for his early work with hip hop artists Afrika Bambaataa, and others including Planet Patrol and the legendary British group New Order.
He started his DJ career in the early 70's playing soul and "Philly soul" in clubs in Boston and other parts of the US before moving to New York in 1981 to move more into production. Through the 80's he worked with other music legends including The Latin Rascals, Hall & Oats and hip hop label Tommy Boy Records, where he produced Afrika Bambaataa and the Soul Sonic Force's "Planet Rock" single. Later he worked closely with Bob Dylan, Al Green, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Cyndi Lauper, Pet Shop Boys and many others.
